Meet Dr. Root

Dr. Root was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She completed her B.A. in psychology at Hamilton College in upstate New York. After college, she had the privilege of working on multiple NIMH funded research projects through Cornell’s Geriatric Psychiatric Department. She attended Lehigh University’s doctoral counseling psychology program where she developed a culturally informed and intersectional practice dedicated to challenging systems of oppression.

Dr. Root completed her internship at VA Palo Alto Heath Care in 2024 and completed her Postdoctoral Residency at VA St. Louis Health Care in 2025. Dr. Root’s training has spanned across a variety of settings including: college counseling, outpatient mental health clinics, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, home-based primary care, hospice/palliative units, residential/IOP trauma recovery center, and Siteman Cancer Hospital. Dr. Root specializes in geropsychology and has extensive experience applying her training to adults of all ages. She works with clients collaboratively on goals related to relationships, identity, sexuality/intimacy, life transitions, grief/loss, mood disorders, trauma, and coping with life’s stressors. She serves individuals 18 and older. She is currently accepting new patients.

Dr. Root has received comprehensive training in several evidence-based treatments including Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. In her practice, Dr. Root takes an integrative approach aimed at tailoring care to each client’s unique needs and presenting concerns.
