Meet Dr. Root

A woman therapist with wavy brown hair wearing a white shirt, gold hoop earrings, and a gold chain necklace, smiling softly in front of a blurred background.

I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and I feel so grateful to be back in my hometown contributing to the community that gave me so much!

I completed my B.A. in psychology at Hamilton College in upstate New York. After college, I had the privilege of working on multiple NIMH funded research projects through Cornell’s Geriatric Psychiatric Department. I attended Lehigh University’s doctoral counseling psychology program where I developed a culturally informed and intersectional practice dedicated to challenging systems of oppression.

I completed my clinical internship at VA Palo Alto Heath Care in 2024 and completed my postdoctoral residency at VA St. Louis Health Care in 2025. My training has spanned across a variety of settings including: college counseling, outpatient mental health clinics, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, primary care clinics, hospice/palliative units, residential/IOP trauma recovery programs, and Siteman Cancer Hospital. I specialize in life transitions and trauma and have extensive experience applying my training to adults of all ages. I works with clients collaboratively on goals related to relationships, identity, anger, aging, grief/loss, sexuality/intimacy, mood disorders, trauma, and coping with life’s stressors. I serve individuals 18 and older. I am currently accepting new patients.

I have received comprehensive training in several evidence-based treatments including Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. In my practice, I take pride in providing an integrative approach aimed at tailoring care to each client’s unique needs and presenting concerns.
